European Publishers Council Vision on Copyright
With the announcement of copyright reform by the new European Commission the European Publishers Council (EPC) is pleased to present their “Copyright Vision” including specific recommendations that are designed to help realise the full potential of the media and publishing ecosystem to the benefit of creators and every internet user.
To support rapid market developments and consumer demands, the EPC’s vision combines three digital elements: the technical infrastructure, specific parts of the legislative framework to be adapted in line with digital media developments, and innovative practical solutions, based on licensing and clear guidelines to promote transparency.
The EPC’s vision references the important work of the Linked Content Coalition on simplifying ways to identify rights and to improve discoverability of rightsholders and licensors. The technical framework and data model developed by the LCC has been adopted by the UK’s Copyright Hub and is being tested in an innovative EU co-funded project called the RDI project.
