Today, the European Publishers Council sent further considerations to the EDPB prior to their work on broader guidelines on ‘Consent or Pay’.
Given the EDPB’s ongoing work on the development of guidance related to the ‘Consent or Pay’ model, the European Publishers Council followed up our letter of the 11th of December 2023, where we explained the distinct role of news publishers in society, the role of advertising to sustain publishers’ investment in the creation of journalistic content, and the significant differences in terms of publishers’ purpose and data processing from those of an online platform such as Meta.
